I tested seeding, and the only thing that really makes a difference is having access to sunlight and soil contact.
Pic related, I tossed some rye seeds all over the place, and this was a patch of exposed soil. You can see the seeds and the sprouts form it, the first leafs as well. The other plant is white mustard.
