>>2079259 - 10-15 mile hikes are very good to start with, and try to keep it down to a 2 mile an hour minimum. If you’re not /fit/ especially bring trekking poles(you don’t notice the use for them until you don’t use them), but it’s generally good to bring them anyways. You won’t look like a pussy, but make sure to pack some padding in your backpack so your back doesn’t get fucked by a lifestraw or other water bottle you bring. Also, learn from me. I used to do very long day hikes with 40 pounds of gear on my back and I had my backpack on my back very very tight, my shoulder blades did not thank me the day after. Expect as you get into it(hiking) for you to feel fine, but your legs will hurt the day after or 2 days after. It’s not unbearable, just stiff. Hiking is something that you ease your way into, and it’s actually rather easy to acclimate yourself to walking a lot since every human has leg muscle and therefore, muscle memory. If it’s hot, bring Gatorade so you don’t risk heat exhaustion, it’s NOT fun. Make sure to eat a good meal before the hike and take a shit at least within 12 hours before. Don’t worry too much about if you’ll make it and focus more on talking and indulging in the wilderness around you.
Godspeed anon
