I've experienced several strange things.
I live in southern patagonia so there's boundless forests and can camp pretty much everywhere, so you just go off to the mountain wherever. No bears, no dangerous animals whatsoever.
This one time a dog followed me from town up the mountain and stayed with me through the hike. While camping, at night, the dog was sleeping right outside the tent, when suddenly at night I wake up to him growling. I hear tapping noises in the forest around me, as if there were woodpeckers in almost every tree. The dog starts barking and growling even more, and moves away from the tent a bit while doing so. Next I hear is the dog making sounds as if it's fighting something, but I can't hear anything else making noise, squeals and I hear him run squealing into the forest. The tapping on the trees stops, everything back to normal.
This other time we were camping at a spot, I go to pee in the middle of the night and as I'm doing so, I hear a growl behind me. With my heart at my throat, I turn around and with my flashlight I point at what seems to be a giant bending over, I dropped the flashlight and started running into the dark. Turns out it was a tree in that shape, but still can't explain the growl. Pic related, took a picture of it the following morning. It was without a doubt the most shitscared I've been on a camping trip. The man-tree is completely out of place with the rest of the forest, too.
