pic related is from a trip where I camped at 10,000 feet on Mt. Shasta. Echoing what other anons said, it can get pretty gnarly
>trying to sleep the night before summit>solid, brand new, 3 season mountain hardwear tent>wind is so strong I can feel the underside of the tent trying to lift me up>fly sounds like it's about to be ripped off the tent>this is with a ~3 foot rock wall surrounding us>wake up at 1:30am after maybe an hour of sleep>stash our excess gear, shove 6-7 30-50 lb rocks in the tent>wind is so strong down avalanche gulch it causes minor rockfall>we get the fuck outta dodge as fast as our pansy-ass bay area lungs will allow>literally have to crawl across some ridges and saddles near the summit because you get knocked over if you're standing>come back down to find the tent blown onto the hillside with a bent pole>this was in late June ffs>Shasta is pretty vanilla as far as mountains go apparentlymountains aint nothin to fuck with:
