I've got a couple of runner bean seeds that I picked out from their pods this morning and they're now sitting in a bowl out in the garden drying out. Weather's a little chilly but they're getting a bit of sun.

Just wondering - how long should I leave them to dry out before I put them away til spring?

I've tried my hand at growing some runner beans this year and it's been a resounding success. Even with about 2/3 of the beans growing successfully I've gotten a surplus. And a few of them have been a too tough to eat, probably from having been left on the stems for too long.

So, I figured I could re-use them in Spring next year. Try to be ecological in my own little way.

I'm wondering - what's the best way to store them over winter? I've got a shed that I can keep them in and the temperature doesn't drop especially low (based in the UK)
I mean, if I leave them on a shelf they'll probably just wither away so what kind of container should I get - zip locked airtight or maybe something metal?

One other thing - the stems have gotten so tall now that they've gone past the top of the poles and have started entwining with each other.
However, they're not quite long enough yet for me to bride over to the second structure behind.
Any recommendations? Or should I just keeping letting them do their own thing?
