Seriously. I hate these stupid little chodes, always have. The short handle makes them shit for ax things, but they're still way heavier than a saw.
If I need to cut or split wood, I bring a full sized ax. If weight/size is a concern, then I'll bring a folding saw. I don't NEED to split wood while /out/ because I'm not some suburban once-a-year-car-camping type guy who thinks he needs a massive bonfire just to constantly be scooting back because the fire is too damn big. I'll just burn sticks and have a normal sized fire.
Fuck hatchets.
