Euros really don"t have a frame of reference here. Sure, if you lived in a small country the freedom to roam would be important so you *could* go out. The USA is HUGE compared to Scandinavia. The lower 48 alone is very nearly as large as Europe. Texas is bigger than France. There is twice as much public land in the lower 48 than there is total land area of all the nordic countries combined, including Greenland. And we have private property rights. Your freedom to roam sounds an awful lot like a freedom to trespass on my land. I'll take private property rights and more free public land than your entire country (and its more than pine trees and snow) over your freedom to walk anywhere you want in a country smaller than my State.
