Carry at least one thing you can use as a weapon, but understand if it gets to the point of combat it's probably gonna get taken from your grasp and used against you. Diplomacy is 98% of the fight.

All in all it is less dangerous than commuting to work, just have fun, be smart, be alert but not paranoid. Always tell someone where you're going and when youll be back.
