>>2355991It depends on the situation. If I can, I keep the fish alive right up to the moment I filet them. If not, I typically bleed them from the gills right away, then ice them. Life is nature's way of keeping meat fresh, so I try to take advantage of that. The bite was hot and heavy yesterday. It's windy as hell so I'm bottom fishing mainly, but I caught fish every 3-5 minutes. Too bad they were all catfish, croakers, the occasional stingray, and crabs that wouldn't let go of the hook, but it was still fun. I got finned by a catfish for the first time. I've heard they sting really badly, but I let it bleed out for a bit before cleaning it up, and I had only a mild sting. I don't know though: I think many mistake discomfort for pain in this world. It's why there's a pill for everything now.
