>>119473690% of the books and articles you will read are larpers. They don't homestead, and don't talk from experience. At best they are hobbiests that are spending money on small scale gardening or raising animals rather than making it.
9% are written by failing homesteaders. That is to say 75% of their income is from writing articles/books and giving classes on how to homestead. Their farm is basically a marketing gimmick.
That sweet 1% if you're able to find it is absolutely worth reading.
Yes, you are retarded. Hunting and firearms shouldn't even be on your mind. Sanitation, insulation, water well construction and maintenance, etc things that keep you alive and safe for the first week is what's important. But that's fine, you're learning - starting out.
Number 1 goal is "What do I have to build to sleep safely, and survive for years"
Number 2 goal is "how will I pay back my loan / pay my mortgage, and pay my taxes."
So a good insulated/ventilated home, with a good well, a sceptic system, preferably a wood heating stove with back up propane installed, a driveway that won't be a mud pit.
Now for the part where you can grow all the things to be self sufficient. Food bills 0, heating bills 0, water bills 0, etc BUT you will need an income to pay the tax man. So.. what can you do with the land that people will pay for, and make a profit?
