Sorting through my ice fishing gear, I ran into the ice fishing stuff that I got in last year's Secret Santa, and thought that since we didn't do it this year, that it might be fun for previous participants to talk about what they caught with the Secret Santa gifts in the last year.
>Rapala Minnow Rap
I didn't use this much, but I did catch at least one Smallmouth in Voyageurs with it. We didn't catch much in Voyageurs this year, but man was the weather and the camping ever nice.
>Rapala Jigging Rap and other knockoff of the same thing
These had a real wild day in late February. I had a buddy that had never been ice fishing before with and while we were not having any luck on gills and northerns, we each caught about twice our limit of crappies in about 40 minutes after sundown, and they were big crappies too (we each kept a limit and we tossed back every crappie under 11 inches). The two most productive rods were two I had set with bare hook and minnows, but we each had one of these lures on our other rod, and so these probably caught 10+ fish between them.
>Tungsten jigging spoon thing in black and gold
I caught all 3 of the walleyes that my whole group caught in a barren weekend on Lake Mille Lacs with this. Too bad none of them had any size to them.
>Celsius tungsten stunner
Goddamn did this thing murder the perch. It got a few gills too, but apparently I don't know how to catch gills though the ice because overall I did terrible on gills last hardwater season. It caught a bunch of crappies too. I caught more crappies than every other kind of fish combined in 2020, and that's despite the fact that I limited on gills 3 times in June out of my boat. Most of the crappies I caught on live minnows through the ice.
