>>2663448I've seen your post in pol about this topic so I'll bite as I'm into this as well. What's your EDC that you carry with you? I'm just curious. I agree that you are only gonna be as good as what you normally have with you and practice with.
Trapping is extremely important. Not the gay bushcraft shit with deadfalls, string or shit wire snares, but legit aircraft cable snares and steel traps.
You can build an effective meat gathering tool with long spring traps. They are damn near invulnerable, you can put on a #2 chain and two swivels, and if you can find the old #2 or #11 size from old companies like victor, sleepy creek or Blake and lamb or you can catch a majority of animals that are non hoofed. You can use them for blind sets, pocket sets, dirt hole sets, den sets, and even put them on trees or fences and bait the center so that they pass into the jaws. Its silent, your anchoring system is permanent, and you don't need any bullets as you can just get a branch and club them. Carrying 6 long springs with chain is feasible and more if you are fit. They pack tight when you wrap the chain and fold the springs as well. Conibears are too heavy and the triggers wear out.
Snares are great for short term meat gathering. They are done after a catch, but in an SHTF you can carry a dozen 3/32 snares easily as they are lightweight. In an emergency you can catch deer with them.
Active hunting is not productive at all for SHTF (and living the hunter gatherer life), its gonna be pure opportunism at that point. Once the starving starts, everyone is gonna hit the woods with guns and decimate and scare the animals into hiding. They will only operate at night. The deer will get wiped too. The only way you will get any animals consistently from that point forward will be from an arsenal of traps. Get a good supply of 50 pound and higher lines, with some larger hooks, and build limb lines and bank lines. You can trap turtles and fish as well.
