I own half a dozen crappy chinese flashlights(that use cree emitters, so still better than the $20 junk they sell at home depot)
My 2 good quality ones are the Nitcore EC2(which is prob. the most /out/ flashlight ever made) and Rofis JR-20
Both have 300+ lumin modes, and 200+ hours of use at low.
The nitecore has a really cool flashling red led thats great for keeping in visual contact if you're trailing someone. Every 2 or 3 seconds, it blinks. Can also be turned on solid(for 600+ hours) and is ideal for reading maps at close range, while keeping your night vision.
Rofis has an articulating head that allows it to go from conventional 180degree flashlight, to a 90 degree angle light.
If i had to recommend one for /out/, i really cant think of one better suited than the EC2.
