Bought 15 acres of old farmland that was overgrown with pines (logged by real estate speculator before I bought it). Payed $27,000.
I'm a welder by trade. Work is a 45 minute drive. Trying to find something closer because an hour and a half on the road every day gets old but as you can imagine there's not much between here and there.
I have 25 years experience and could be making $40+ an hour in the local union but I'm tired of shit jobs like plant shutdowns so I'm content working in a small shop for $15 an hour doing easy custom shit.
It was rough when I first started.
The first year was a cold one and I got here in February. Temp was below freezing and I had no electricity, heating or insulation.
Pic is from my porch.
