See where this goes? The knife is a tool, a weapon and a symbol of capability. The ability to shape the world around us and defend ourselves. The Sikh actually have a religious duty to carry a knife anytime anywhere. It's not that they need it, it's that they have it IF they need it. Just like fire extinguishers, first aid kits, spare tires, etc. you don't need these in your car, you can drive for decades without ever needing them. But you MUST have them for the rare case that you actually do need them. Risk = probability x severity, so even with extremely low probability, a high severity poses a serious risk.
