Yes, I carry bear spray. And a handgun.

I took this pic while I was on my motorcycle.
Then I stuffed the camera into my jacket and was ready to move as mama grizzly and her two cubs walked behind my idling motorcycle, close enough that I could have kicked them.

I see black bears about once a month out riding, and they're usually <30yds away.

Firearms ... sure, if that's your thing. Be aware that all the buildings are federal buildings so no carrying in there, but firearms are allowed in the park.

This mama bear with two cubs in tow walked right behind my bike. I could have kicked them.

In general, they're going to keep their distance from you. Make noise, talk to them, whatever.

That said, after a goddamn close call in yellowstone (Mama and two cubs walked close enough behind my bike I could have kicked them) ... I carry bear spray in my pack all the time now, in addition to my pistol.
