cat fisherman here, the rig you are using should work well for cats i run something fairly similar. in my opinion the rig i find works best is 60lb power pro, abu garcia ambassador reel with the "clicker", daiwa esox edition 6'5" heavy rod, 1-4 oz weight and 6/0-10/0 gamagatsu hook. preferred bait is live bullheads when targeting flatheads. shad, chubs, redhorse, white sucker and sunfish where legal all work well too its just bullheads will stay alive longest which is good for flatheads as they prefer live bait. if youre not getting bites on the live stuff chop the bait in half and toss it back out. this works best for channels but i have caught many flatheads this way. fish around current seams, log jams, dams slack waters and eddys. start at around 7-8 pm and fish into the night. i usually get to a spot an hour before sundown and stay till around 4am. good luck.
