You can use smaller ammo, but it means your aim must be very good or you'll end up wounding the animal instead of killing or completely incapacitating it. A wounded animal can run down a hole and die instead of going into your stew pot. If you are practice plinking then it doesn't matter nearly as much, but your slingshot pouch should be made specifically for your ammo type and size for best results.
