I grew up in the woods anon. In the late 70s my parents bought 7 acres of forest in a rural town and built a cabin on it. All the neighbors are farmers who also own many acres so the whole area is wooded with occasional farmland and nearly-abandoned hay fields. Growing up we spent every day outside, running around in the woods and exploring deeper and deeper as we got older. My parents would yell out to call us back for lunch and dinner.
A few years ago I visited and took a walk to some spots I hadn't been to in ages. Pic is "the big rock", a curious landmark. When I was little it was sitting in more of a clearing but it's become overgrown and now it's covered in moss. It was a spaceship on some days, a boat on other days, and a giant animal whose back we'd ride on (ala Falcor).
