The Sierra are massive- one giant range- with a long ascent from the West and a quick drop off to the east. You are either in the foothills which are kind of boring or in the high granite which is great...and then it drops off quickly to desert. The "Rockies" are really dozens and dozens of mt ranges often seperated by broad river valleys- allowing for a wider experience imo.
Of course, the in the Sierra, all the large predators and a lot of the large prey have been extirpitated. The only place you find a grizzly in CA is on the flag lol.
