Another neat kind of gypsum you can find out in that region en masse, is south of whites city on US 190/62, theres some good outcrops of the Castile gypsum. I know there's also some nice selenite gypsum you can find out on the BLM land there, but a lot of them have claims staked upon them.
On that note, OP should probably check out Carlsbad Caverns. Shits definitely a worth while thing to check out in that part of the world.
