Situations where I brought too much? Plenty.
Situations where I regreted not having brought something? None.
I carry a SAK, two fixed blade knives (small and huge), pliers (actual pliers, not multitool), and 30m of rope. People often make fun of me for carrying all that stuff.
Then I tell them how many times those knives saved my life by cutting ropes and straps, how my large knife saved me from being mugged,
how that rope helped me countless times to climb up and down and rescue people, how these pliers helped me cut barbed wire and thick cables, and even my SAK saved my life, when some crazy guy who threatened to kill me was in desperate need of a corkscrew, and needed someone to teach him how to use one.
I would regret death more than I regret blisters, so I'm okay with carrying all that stuff for pretty much nothing all year long.
