If you TRY to read my post again, you will see my first advice was just using the pipe and waiting for the wood to expand- i.e., the excess moisture created from smoking, will make the wood expand. That is essentially the same as the water on q-tip trick.
Then if that doesnt work, LOTS of pipe smokers use beeswax and LOTS of pipe smokers use the trick involving heating the tenon. I specifically said NOT to do it, if he was unsure about it.
It being inadvisable for people who have absolutely no idea of what they're doing (is that why you're against it?), doesnt mean OP can't know about it.
