Even fishing open water the lowest I'd go for throwing a Texas rig is a medium because any less and your hook sets become a lot less solid. Also, heavy rods are used so you can yank the fish from cover and get it into open water. With a UL if you hook that fish and he immediately dives under a grass mat you're kinda boned.
