I always go off man made trails in deep woodland. It's not very difficult. If you want to find a vantage point then climb a good tree or climb a hill.
If the brush is really thick then use a game trail that deer and big animals use. This may be a problem if bears are in your area though.
Walk slow and look around every time you step. don't walk really loud and fast into the woods ignoring everything and getting tunnel vision and looking ahead of you. walking with a slow gait and being aware will mean you will be able to see any unaware animals. Even if you are walking and trying to be quiet most animals would have smelt or heard you and ran off. don't worry about dangerous animals.
just take bear spray and a gun (bladed weapon if you live in a noguns country like myself), and you'll be fine.
