I usually replace the battery in my Petzl Tikka XP like once a season and I don't even think I've ever had one burn out on me while outdoors. I think I go camping pretty often during the summer and fall, albeit I'm no mountain guide. The battery of this headlamp is rated to last 190 hours on the low setting, which is what I use in camp and in my tent. You only need the high setting for night hiking, which I tend to do almost never anymore. 190 hours is about 8 days of continuously being on.
