Stacking rocks can have many adverse effects, the one that pisses me off the most is erosion. When you remove stones from something such a fell, you expose the dirt or sand underneath to rain. Which of course causes erosion. Stacks of rocks can also lead hikers astray.
Here the hikers, or tourists have moved into the "stack rocks into a massive pile" zone.
