Greetings. I am trying to buy a touring bicycle, and I have gone to a few bicycle shops as well as done research online. The employees at the stores were all telling me that touring bikes were going to be around $2000 usd, however I read a bunch of discussions online that suggested that you could get a touring bike that is much cheaper while still maintaining the same performance. Are these employees just trying to jerk me around to buy their over priced product, or is this really a case of paying for better value? Forgive my autism, but I am new to the touring bicycle scene and I don't want to get worked over for something I don't need.
