First one(pic related) is a shitty hatchet that was corroded to crap, and the handle was split. The cutting bit(Harder metal in the head. When you clean them you will see a clear color difference from the cutting bit and the rest) is almost totally worn down and the back was mushroomed. I filed the mushrooming down and did my best to re-profile the edge(Since the cutting bit is probably 1/5th of what it originally was, the convex needed to be moved back)
It was a lot of work for what would in the end be a shitty hatchet that wouldnt be any better than the shittiest one you could buy at Walmart for $10. But it was a good learning experience so my next one would turn out better.
Dont know where the head was made, but since it's easily older than 50 years, it would deff. be north american.
