In the last two years I prepared my own "Emergency Seed Box". It was certainly a lot cheaper than the one in the picture but still fairly expensive.
While I'm probably one of those "preppers" the actual reason for making it was simply because two years ago I was (for a few months) entirely without money and only barely prevented myself from becoming homeless.
I did have to go to the soup kitchen though and on some days I left hungry because they've been full / out of food. That wasn't particually nice.
Since then, in addition to creating the seed box and keeping food stored, I also started growing small scale. Mainly to get used to growing food, though.
My Box contains Vegetables, Salads, Tubers, Herbs, Grain, Berries, Nuts that grow in my climate zone.
Since I wanted to cover more then just food I also added some (fruit) trees, bambus, oil plants, and Fiber plants (Linen).
Yeah, I also got Coffee beans, Caraway, black pepper and bananas even though I couldn't grow them in my climate zone unless I can aquire a green house but it "feels" better to have them in storage.
I already consider my box complete, and I'm happy about it, but feel free to make suggestions on what you think shouldn't be missing or advice for those who want to start one themselves.
