I have had good results with PLine Flurocarbon. Casts well and VERY abrasion resistant. I use Uni knots with lots of saliva. Palomar in my opinon puts too much tension and heat on fluro and ends up damaging it. I will often use it as a leader on my 10lb braid tied with an alberto knot.

I do and he calls me a fat nigger. When ever I catch trout and he doesnt he complaines about the water not being right for flyfishing or that spinning is cheating.The Bastard does do well in skinny snaggy shit or where there is a hole right the fuck next to a steep bank. I think i need to invest in a 7'6 fenwick light for situations like that.

A big reason why flyfishing is often more effective is it can be easier to match the drift of the current since you have essentially a giant float. Trout can be quite fickle when it comes to this. Not only does your bait have to closely mimic the prey, it has to be traveling at the same speed and in the right column of water. Spinning is a bit easier to use though and can be just as effective if you can get the speed of the drift right.

I usually bring three setups when lake fishing for trout:
1.Powerbait rod. 7'0 medium light fast action rod and 2500 reel, 6lb 12" fluro leader black swivel and 1/4oz bank sinker. 6lb fluro mainline
2. Spinners. 6'6 medium w medium action and 2500 reel. 6lb fluro to snap swivel
3. Float Rod. Fished with bait or plastic jig/power worms 8ft Light Fast action with 1000 reel. 10' of 4lb fluro with alberto knot to 10lb braid. I use a stop knot, small plastic bead, slip float and enough split shot to knock the float upright.
Sometimes the trout will only want one of the three.
