I use a 10ft St. Croix Triumph Surf when I fish like that, which is primarily how I fish on the beach. It's a light rod, well balanced with a 4k-6k, hell I've had a 12k Thunnus and it felt pretty comfortable. I haven't used too many rods in the same class, besides trying a friends at the beach, so I'm not sure how it stacks up against other rods. It is really nice for big lures and Bucktails, and can handle big fish, it might be more of an entry rod but its nice.
I personally have been meaning to pick up a Tsunami, I used one for about 15 minutes in the Saco with a 3oz and it was nice and stuff, and responsive.
There are a few guys around here that use MHX rods and rave about them, but I haven't touched one of those.
