My experience in the Scouts was pretty shite.
Despite being in a rural part of South West Scotland, a stones throw away from the Southern Uplands, we never actually went out. The scout leader was just some guy who liked to talk about going hiking but never did.Mostly it was sitting in an old asbestos hut doing knots for 3 hours. The most exciting trip was going up to the local woodlands next to the village, something I did just about every day as a child anyway.
The Scout Leader was pretty friendly with my Dad and we all ended up going for a walk in Galloway one January. A blizzard blew in so scout leader decided to show us a route he'd taken before to get us into a valley and out of the worst of it. He forgot to mention the valley was a vast sphagnum bog. I hate that guy.
