Hi all
After leaving my 6 pots of densely packed grocery store chives in the ground without any thinning for years, I finally dug up the clumps and planted the largest most robust bulbs in a new location with at least 2 inches around each one to allow more nutrients to each of them.
Now I'm stuck with a shit load of small, thin ones that I didn't replant. I've removed the roots and plan on cleaning the dead layers of stem off, but don't really know what to do with them. If I dehydrate them, would they be good in soups?
Also, are the chives likely to survive a Canadian winter so soon after a transplant? In the worst case scenario I just buy some more next year, but there were some pretty big looking bulbs that had developed over the last few years and I'd like to have nice big stems coming up next year if possible (also, I spent so much time digging the little sobs into the ground 1 at a time that I'd hate for it all to be a waste).
