Hey /out/, fishing newbie here and I have no idea what I’m doing.
Finally found a spot with some fish at a local park- not sure what kind but they were dark on the top with orange lateral lines and white bellies. Tried fishing with a hand-me-down rod from my late uncle but can’t seem to grab any attention from the big ones.
I swapped between two kinds of hooks/lures- the white one with a red eye in pic related and a small shiny plastic green/yellow fish lure thing from Walmart. Plopped a garlic-scented yellow ball on the hooks but they don’t seem to be attracting attention. Any earthworms I hook on usually get gobbled by smaller fish before the big ones notice them.
Any suggestions on good general purpose lures/bait for beginners and other tips?
P.S. Should I be letting my lure/hook sink to the bottom or float towards the top with a bobber?
