>>196006>what the fuck is MEC up to these days?I got a "great" deal on a down sleeping bag recently. I noticed that on the bag it was rated as -10C but on the printed price tag it was rated as -5C.
Apparently people had been complaining that the bag didn't seem warm enough. MEC investigated and traced the problem to the factory in China that was producing the sleeping bags. They had been intentionally leaving the bags short on down.
So, they were pumping out -5C bags labelled as -10C. With the mistake caught the stock was being sold off at a discount -- enter myself.
It's kind of shit that this sort of thing happens, and that so much of MEC's gear is brought in from China. I wonder if they could have a like a MEC+ brand or something that stocks better made shit that is made in Canada. This would have problems, but just an idea...

Perhaps check out Patagonia.
I have a Patagonia hoodie that has served me very well. It's a bit expensive, but the company is kick-ass and will repair or replace your gear free of charge for life (provided you don't do something really stupid and intentionally fuck it up to take advantage of them). I had the zipper replaced on my hoodie for free. They offered me a new one, but I opted for repair.
Also, I know that there has been some milsurp hate on here lately, and fair enough, but I recently got a cold weather sweater with several front pockets from a surplus store somewhere in Minnesota. It's been pretty kick ass...
