There are a lot of popular walks originating from designated car parking areas where you'll meet people going up and down. Once you start heading to the more remote Munros you meet less people but often still run into more 'serious' /out/ types.
Hiking is popular in Scotland so you'll always meet people out on the hills. I've not been to England to do any walking but I imagine it is hellish in comparison.
