i live in the southwestern part of the state (somerset county to be exact) and a family of four can live comfortably on $16-$17 an hour wages. rent on a 3 bedroom farm house with a few acres is ~500/mo and you wont have nighbors for a few miles. also the amish markets are god tier for fresh food
