The fuel evaporation problem is annoying for sure, but I work around it by putting my fueled up Zippo into a cellophane bag, which I will then wrap around the lighter tightly to make it into a nice, airtight bundle. I have a Zippo wrapped in plastic like this right now, going for 6 weeks now without problems and without needing a refill.
Zippos are old school for sure, but I still enjoy how maintainable and robust they are. You can easily resuscitate one even decades later as long as the case is sound. They're perfect for the DIY type of guy.
As for butane stuff, I swear by pic related. I've seen them being sold under many brand names, like Torjet, Matteo and Firelight. Piezo ignition, but at buck-50 a piece you can afford to buy several as backups, and if you're unhappy with the default flame size, the top comes apart easily with basic tools and you can then adjust the flame as much as you want. Also, refillable by design, so one will serve you until the piezo dies. Highly recommended as far as chinkshit goes.
And of course, the smart individual would always carry on him/her your classic box of stickmatches for redundancy anyway.
