over the past 7 or years I've tried all sorts from flatpacking twig burners, alcohol stoves, and gas stuff- msr/fire maple.
for years I avoided jetboils because of the price and I considered it as the 'iphone' of stoves- gimmicky as fuck and for rich kids.
all of the stuff I'd tried had pros and cons flatpack twig burners- you dont need to carry fuel and take up no space... but you need to find fuel alcohol stoves don't like cold weather, and go through a lot of fuel ect
about a year ago, a buddy of mine bought a jetboil, we all gave it 'hmmmm...' and stroked our beards in puzzlement. then last summer for our annual meet up/camp out he brought his. he had cooked, eaten, washed up, and packed it all away whist we were all still cooking.
about a month back, I bought one myself after doing a lot of reading, and youtube research. I'm kicking myself I didn't but one sooner! it is by far the best stove I've owned. it's fast, efficient ( the box says 12ltrs boiled from a 100g gas canister, I've been using it 2x a week for a month and I'm still on my 1st canister) it's light weight (about 500g inc fuel) and compact- it all slots and clips together to create a complete unit- easy to store. add a jetboil pot stand to it and you also have the option of cooking with non-jetboil pans so it's incredibly versatile- fuck you can even use the damn thing as a coffee press and to make popcorn.
they are pricey yes, but I'd look at it as an investment because it's worth every penny
