My humble opinion as a river rat.
I work on the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, and Cumberland. I’ve seen all of the flyover states, sailing from St. Paul to New Orleans to Pittsburg to Nashville
For fall, the award goes to northeastern kentucky and southeastern Ohio. Decent hills, lovely foliage, and that heavy fog? Perfect autumn weather.
Summer is Minnesota/Wisconsin, not too hot, and lots of marinas. The river is a part and they got dem hills I love.
Spring goes to Louisiana/Mississippi. The winter runoff brings that water up and you got beautiful flooded riverlands.
Winter? Fuck that shit, go somewhere you can ski. I’m an east coast boy at heart so Upstate New York and Vermont have what I crave.
Best stargazing award goes to Arkansas/Missouri.
Best small towns award goes to West Virginia/Ohio
Best Bird Watching goes to Kentucky/Tennessee
