I use Gucci insulation for the warmth for weight ratio but you dont really have to go crazy, even a good sweatshirt or fleece works as a nice mid layer but know that
A good hardshell is essential, I use a relatively inexpensive one but even a nylon poncho works well in the area plus now you have an emergency shelter option
It is worth buying nice stuff if you've hiked enough to desire something more, if you're worrying about weight, or if you want more real use equipment specialized for what your doing
