They were made for german mountain troops - but not as an alpine boot for serious shit you need spikes for.
So what it has:
It's stury as fuck (although you cannot change the sole)
The sole is stiff but soft enough for regular walking from paved ways to rocks in the mountains BUT YOU CANNOT USE SPIKES!
Aktually its more of a tough trekking boot on steroids. Here in Yurop you can get them brand new from around 170-200 bucks.
If you wanna know more, ask me. And never ever buy used surplus boots: They were worn for long time by one owner. The insole has formed around this wearer's feet and can seriously fuck up yours
