/out/ jobs sound fun, but are in fact not so fun. For example examine pic related, under that 50+ inch grass are two things, enough mosquitoes to suck you dry and 12-18 inch trees. It's hotter than hell and so humid that you're half drowned just from breathing, there is only 3 inches on either side of your bushhog and you can't see shit from the seat so your spending the whole day standing on the 2x6 inch step watching for trees, and to top it off there isnt a breeze to be had. Yes you are outside, but it sucks full stop. In fact that whole planting sucked, it was 36F and pissing down rain when it was put in, the pre emergent failed so the weeds go right up to the trees, the site is an hour and a half away from the nearest base so if anything goes wrong your entire day is wasted traveling for supplies to fix it no matter how small it is, and assuming we ever get the grass under control it is surrounded on all sides by terrible invasives so we will be spending weeks cutting rose black locust and bittersweet out of that plantation next year. And working that isn't even a bad day, today for example I spent 9 hours walking through chest high brush and head level branches cutting invasives out of another planting and tomorrow I will spend all day on a bobcat moving dirt from one pile to the other withought ever stepping foot in the woods. Don't let me dissuade you, it is the best job I've ever had and I love doing it, but a lot of people expect it to be a series of fun day hikes when in fact most of it is mind numbing repetitive labor.
