Human shit is full of nasty bacteria and heavy metals. It's a categorized as an extremely dangerous biohazard because it breeds norovirus, hepatitis c, e-coli etc even if the person shitting it out isn't suffering from those illnesses.
A common source of bacterial contamination in drinkable water comes from animals shitting/dying in lakes, river, streams, and even underground springs. Pooping in wells used to be a common wartime tactic if an invading force wanted to completely deprive native residents of water. William Walker killed 10% of Costa Rica by doing that kind of shit in the 1850's.
