>>333804i have a tiny lightweight hammock i string up first. i use this to hold my hammock/sleeping bag/tarps/etc to keep them off the ground while i setup the main hammock (in case the ground is muddy, snowy, tick-ridden, etc). once the main hammock is up i use it as a bench or to hold my stuff.
i always put it alongside my main hammock (or under it i need be, using the same trees) so i can rest toss my boots and whatever else on it when i'm sleeping. my main pack i just hang off a tree or the like.
if rain or snow is an issue some people string the second hammock under the first to shelter it but i just wrap my stuff in black trash bags and that's always worked fine for me
