These threads pop up a few times a year. Someone will claim they’re doing something grandiose, post pics of their gear (which is almost always brand new), tell us their plans, then go silent. I do t think it’s a troll, I think it’s that people bitch out at the last minute.
Back in 2019 or 2020 there was a schizo from Portland, OR who planned on flying to Orlando then hiking home. He posted pics (including his new gear) and even his Insta handle (which the janitors deleted, as it’s against the rules). He lasted two days before he was violently accosted by homeless people while still in the city.
But yeah, sometimes the threads are pretty entertaining but no one ever really comes through.
