eberlestock perfected this by making backpacks that are pretty much as modifiable as a car. you can pick and choose up to however much gear you need to carry, sure its a bit heavier(and dur durrr durr durable) but that adaptability is more important for me at least.
with my skycrane 2 i can simply use the fanny pack for a day hike, the 3 day pack for an overnighter or two; and the 3 day pack, duffle bag, weapon carrier and frame setup for week+ hunting trips. theres even compression straps to make carrying big game easier. i can do anything with it, but ultralight fags hate on it because the entire rig is 12 pounds unloaded.
