>>1660784If I'm staying for extended periods or just want to do it for fun, I bring raw ingredients for making my own food, such as flour for pan cakes (not pancakes, pan cakes), bacon, veggies, etc.
Knives are a Nepalese khukri or a SOG Demo II. I also bring a variety of pocket knives, and an Estwing hatchet (leather grip).
Firearms are, depending on location, weather, and mood, an oldschool S&W Model 10-8 heavy barrel in .38 Special, a Ruger SP101 Wiley Clapp edition in .357 Magnum, HK USP Compact .45ACP, or Mauser broomhandle in 7.63mm Mauser for a sidearm. Rifle is a Spanish FR8 Mauser in .308, HK SL7 in .308, or a CZ 550 FS Mannlicher in .308. The Mauser broomhandle is for shits and giggles, or when I might want a handy carbine without lugging around an actual rifle.
A US Army lensatic compass with tritium inserts, and Luminox special forces watch, also with tritium inserts, are must haves. In addition to the aforementioned storm matches, I bring a Zippo along for starting fires. I have army surplus fire starting gel for getting wet wood started.
I have an old Gore-Tex poncho for rain gear, reversible 3-color desert on one side, night desert on the other.
I lug everything in an old ALICE pack, sleeping roll mounted underneath and tent on top.
All of my shit is old, most of it is military surplus, it's bulky, it's heavy, but it's all high quality and lasts fucking forever. I don't give a shit about all the high-speed, low-drag bullshit made of nylon and ultralight materials; none of it lasts very long, it costs an arm and a leg, and wool and canvas are vastly superior.
