I would also say that a so called combat knife can do the job of a hunting knife but not as well. Think of it as using vice grips on a nut when clearly a wrench or socket is needed.
If you are wanting a all around wood crafting and skinning knife for $20 a mora will do what you need. I used it exclusively this year on several deer an small game animals. I found the normal companion worked better for skinning and the HD companion is better for wood.
I actually made this over the weekend using te fur I harvested.
